Natural Gas Systems

Across the U.S. there are about 286 serious natural gas explosions per year—the type that cause over $50,000 worth of damage, severe injury, or loss of life.

Here are some signs your gas line is leaking:

1. Starting to crack
Aging gas lines become less structurally sound over time and with this can come cracks. These cracks can lead to dangerous leaks putting the inhabitants of the home at risk. We advise inspecting your gas lines occasionally for any potential risk and giving us a call if you find your need replacement.

2. Hissing noises coming from gas lines
When the pipes age and cracks begin to form gas will proceed to leak out of those cracks. Sometimes, however, these cracks are too small for the naked eye to spot but make the infamous hissing noise you would expect from pressurized gas leaking from the pipes. If you hear this hissing noise we advise you immediately shut the gas off to your house and call us right away.

3. Rust and corrosion
Rust and corrosion are also signs of an aging gas line. It can happen when moisture finds its way into your gas lines and reacts with the metal the pipes are made from. This can lead to leaks and again pose a potentially serious health risk to the occupants of your home. Allow us to inspect the pipes for potential danger before using any products to remove the rust from your pipes.

4. Slowing Down Appliances
Inspect your appliances for anything out of the ordinary. If you notice them either working sub optimally or functioning not as expected or intended, it's perhaps time to check your gas lines.

5. Sending Utility Bills Skyrocketing
A definite telltale sign of a gas pipe leaking is an inordinate amount of money being added to your gas bill. If you find that without cause your bill is much higher than it typically is, there's a very good chance something has malfunctioned and we recommend giving us a call to inspect it (free of charge) as soon as possible.
